The most expensive parking in the world is changing hands

Parking changes hands for almost a million dollars

The scarcity of space in the economic metropolis of Hong Kong drives real estate prices to absurd heights: A parking space in a skyscraper has now been sold for $ 969,000.

The parking space in the "Executive Zone" of the 73-story office tower "The Center" is thus the world's most expensive, reported the newspaper "South China Morning Post".

This is more than three times as much as you pay in the Crown Colony on average for a home.  Converted the buyer paid therefore 6,480 euros for the usual square feet square (0.09 square meters).  Or, according to European standards: 72,000 euros per square meter.

 Buyer unknown
The Center, itself the backdrop to a Batman movie, also holds a record, the most expensive, ever sold business property in the world.  The seller of the car park, the industrial heritage Johnny Cheung Shun-yee, had paid € 4.6 billion in 2018 with other investors.  Who bought the parking lot, Cheung did not want to say, according to the newspaper.

The sale price underscores the prosperity gap that prevails in Hong Kong and has led to months of protests, the newspaper writes.  Almost one in five Hong Kong residents live below the poverty line set by the government in 2017.
