Andrew Yang believes Shane Gillis "deserves another chance to keep his job"
Rob Schneider blamed "cultural instability" in the sacking of Gillis from Saturday Night Live. The comedian was dropped from the premiere after the racist jokes he made on social media
Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang confirmed on Monday his belief that Shin Gillis should have retained his job at Saturday Night Live after the comments of a fanatic comedian against Chinese Americans
"You know, I made public my comments," Yang, an American Taiwanese, told CNN during a rally with reporters after a rally in Cambridge, Massachusetts, following news of the comedy being overthrown. "I think he deserves another chance to keep his job, but obviously people at NBC felt differently."
Asked why he thought Gillis deserved another chance, Yang said he believed "as a society, we have become unnecessarily punitive and violators of people making statements that some find offensive or harmless."
"As a person who was personally summoned in this case, I thought that if I could set an example that we could forgive people, especially in the case, in my opinion, it was in the context of a comic or gray area, that I thought it would be positive, obviously it In the hands of NBC and made the decision they made. "
Shortly after Gillis' hiring was announced last week, his earlier defamatory comments about Chinese Americans and homosexuals made during the podcast appeared, prompting the comedian to apologize. The long-running comedy program on Monday announced that he had fired Gillis and that his remarks were "offensive, harmful and unacceptable"
Yang said Monday afternoon that Gillis reached out to him.
"It looks like we'll be sitting together soon"

There’s a difference between exposing truths through Free Speech and just being ugly.
It’s not okay to say racist things under the guise of comedy. Just because you have a mic in your hand doesn’t make the racist things you say any less racist.
